Beading (Broaches and Barrettes)


New! Beginners and beaders of all skill levels are welcome! Learn a new skill on a small project, which will be made into a barrette or a broach. Learn more about the history and meaning of beaded work. All supplies provided.

with Renata Beaulieu

Renata is an Ojibway educator, originally from Sandy Bay First Nation who has lived in Portage la Prairie for 18 years. She has taught art, social studies and Indigenous culture at Portage Collegiate Institute for five years

Renata is passionate about beading, and started in high school. She began making powwow regalia seven years ago, when her daughters started powwow dancing. For her, it is an honour to create pieces for people who appreciate Indigenous culture. She has taught hundreds of students how to bead, and wants to pass this gift on to future generations. 

Friday, May 3 & Saturday, May 4 • 8 hours
Friday: 7:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m
Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Members: $75 | Non-Members: $85
