Quilting, Beyond the Bedroom - Country Lane Quilters
Artist Statement:
The Country Lane Quilters are a local Quilt Guild with 45 members from Portage la Prairie and surrounding area. Our members meet once a month to share ideas, plan events such as charity days and workshops, and show each other what we have been working on. We have many talented members, including six winners at the provincial level in the last few years.
Quilting continues to grow as a hobby across the world due to its diversity. You can experiment with different techniques such as applique, paper piecing and thread art. You can finish your quilt with hand quilting, machine quilting and even computerized images. Quilts are both creative and serviceable. They are often auctioned or raffled to raise money for charitable organizations or given to those in need of comfort or warmth. The Country Lane Quilters are very involved in charitable activities and make between 75 to 100 quilts every year for this purpose.
We have produced new quilts, that represent both traditional and modem styles, in various sizes and techniques. Our show, "Quilting, Out of the Bedroom" would attract family and friends of our 45 members, and fibre art enthusiasts from Portage and beyond.
