Monday and Wednesday

Start your morning off with a warm up, getting your muscles ready to move into Jazz. Jazz is a dynamic style, usually choreographed to the upbeat energy of pop music. It incorporates technical movements and footwork, with jumping, spinning, and dexterity. After a brief break you will move into Hip Hop. Hip Hop is a style of dance that has evolved from hip-hop street culture. It is usually performed to hip hop music. The dances will be bold and playful — but completely kid appropriate!

Start your afternoon off with a warm up, getting your muscles ready to move into Lyrical dance. Lyrical is a very graceful dance form, which incorporates elements of ballet, jazz, and modern dance. It is performed to contemporary songs and allows the dancer the opportunity to use their skills to communicate the underlying emotions held within the music. After a brief break you will move into Ballet. Ballet focuses on the foundations of this form, which is the basis for all dance disciplines! This class is both technical and creative, and dancers will develop their sense of alignment and body positioning, as well as their eloquence of movement. This class encourages strength and body awareness, as well as grace, agility, and posture.

Tuesday and Thursday

Students will begin the session with a full body and vocal warmup, including breathing exercises for support and projection while onstage. An improv warm-up will also be included, as an icebreaker and to set the tone for students. Morning sessions will then move into technical terminology, with games and activities to help students learn the lingo! Scripts and/or monologues will then be distributed to students, where we will discuss character development, background, dissecting a script and acting choices.

Afternoon sessions will center around musical theatre. A full body warmup and lengthy vocal warmup, including singing, will start this session off, then students will move into learning a group number. The session will begin with learning a song, distribution of “parts”, and background on the number. Once the piece is learnt, students will then get to work on choreography and movement to accompany the singing in the piece. We will discuss character choices, how to marry movement to singing, and the background of musicals.

Monday to Thursday: 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Bring your own bag lunch.
